Capsule Geology

The Bill (South; G, H, J, K zones) occurrences are located at an elevation of approximately 1800 metres on a northeast-facing slope, approximately 4.5 kilometres west of Park Creek and 14.5 kilometres north-northwest of Spruce Hill.

Regionally, the area lies at the eastern edge of the Intermontane Belt near the Kutcho fault and marks the boundary with rocks of the Omineca Belt. The oldest rocks in the area are a sequence of lower greenschist–grade metamorphosed sedimentary and volcanic rocks correlated based on lithological similarities to rocks of the Asitka Group found elsewhere (Geological Survey of Canada Open File 483). Fossil evidence from later regional mapping dates at least part of the sequence as Mississippian (Geological Survey of Canada Paper 80-1B, pages 207-211). A tentative Devonian to Permian age is assigned to these rocks. Five stratigraphic units have been recognized and are, from oldest to youngest: feldspathic chlorite schist; phyllite, sericite and calcareous sericite schist; massive rhyolite, chert and sericite schist; carbonate; and upper feldspathic chlorite schist. The rocks are complexly folded and have undergone at least two phases of deformation. They are predominantly calc-alkaline with minor alkaline members. Two Early Jurassic plutonic bodies intrude the formation: One is quartz monzonite in composition and the other is diorite. The sequence is similar in many respects to rocks of the Kutcho Formation in the southeastern corner of the Cry Lake map area.

Locally, an undifferentiated greenstone, later described as a chlorite schist, hosts quartz-carbonate veins, up to 10-centimetres wide, with disseminated to semi-massive arsenopyrite, pyrite and galena mineralization. Bladed barite, pyrite and chalcopyrite have also been identified in float samples from the area.

In 1984, four rock samples (P271, P272, P274 and P276) yielded values ranging from 22.0 to 110.0 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12559).

In 2001, float samples (272523, 272521 and 27525) from the area assayed 13.2, 1.48 and 4.70 grams per tonne gold, respectively, and a 0.4-metre wide sample (272520) assayed 1.50 grams per tonne gold and 142 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 26661).

In 2007, three grab samples (90188, 90190 and 90200) yielded from 28.20 to 53.00 grams per tonne gold, 73.9 to 427 grams per tonne silver, 0.745 to 3.000 per cent lead, 0.005 to 0.493 per cent zinc and 0.014 to greater than 1 per cent antimony (Assessment Report 29605).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the T-Bill occurrence (MINFILE 094E 092), located approximately 1.35 kilometres to the north- north west.

During 1980 through 1984, Cominco Ltd., later in partnership with Du Pont of Canada Exploration Limited, conducted programs of rock, silt and soil sampling; geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the Bill 1-3 and T-Bird 1-8 claims.

During 2001 through 2005, Rimfire Minerals Corporation and Stikine Gold Corporation carried out a program prospecting; rock, silt and soil sampling; geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the BT 1-3 claims. In 2006, Arcus Development Group Inc optioned the Williams property from Rimfire. In 2007, Equity Engineering Ltd was contracted by Rimfire to carry out a program of geological mapping, prospecting and rock, soil and silt sampling on the Williams property.

In 2014, Kiska Metals Corp. completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock and soil sampling on the area.
